The Prince's Tower

The Prince's Tower seems to have been given this name comparatively recently. It is referred to in the 17th and even 18th century as the "blind" tower or the "one next to the Saviour Tower". The origin of its present name is not known. From the outside it resembles the Court Tower although it does not have the same ornamental band. It had six tiers with the platforms of the first and third tiers supported by brick vaults. Like the Court Tower it had openings on both sides leading to the battlements. Their architecture and structure show that the Prince's, Saviour and Court Towers and the stretches of wall adjoining them belong to the same period. They all date back to the end of the 15th century and underwent minor changes in the 17th.
